GRE Exam

The GRE is a standardized test taken by students in the United States and Canada prior to applying for graduate school. Those taking the GRE include recent college graduates and professionals. The exam is meant to assess students’ readiness for graduate school by testing them on verbal and quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking. HYE Tutors has compiled a thorough GRE test prep curriculum that addresses a student’s specific needs with precision and personalized attention. HYE Tutors’ dynamic approach to standardized testing makes us Los Angeles’ premiere GRE test prep service.

The GRE is a computer-based exam that consists of six sections. These sections include analytical writing, verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and a research or experimental section. It should be noted that the experimental section does not affect one’s overall score. Students can expect to cover geometry, arithmetic, and algebra while preparing for the exam. Our team of experienced tutors have broken down the exam into manageable sections and work closely with our students to cover both basic and complex concepts.

The exam’s verbal reasoning section consists of 20 questions and covers areas like vocabulary, reading comprehension and critical reasoning. We help students sharpen their reading comprehension skills by practicing exercises to quickly analyze text. HYE Tutors works with students to master the basics of grammar for exam day and create practice exercises to improve their skills in spotting errors. Our goal at HYE Tutors is not only to make sure you know where to place a comma, but to also identify well-written passages.

The GRE’s quantitative reasoning sections cover standard high school mathematics and consist of 20 questions per section. Our trained math tutors highlight the areas of mathematics that a student struggles with the most, and help them sharpen their skills prior to exam day.

Lastly, the analytical writing portion of the exam requires two essays based on an issue task and an argument task. Students have 30 minutes to write a well-structured response to a provided argument. We help our students practice both their analytical and argumentative skills to properly craft a thesis statement. Other skills we focus on at HYE Tutors include critical thinking, sentence structure, and vocabulary usage. Call our Los Angeles office today to schedule an appointment for our extensive GRE prep services. We are looking forward to working with new students and providing them with the resources they need to achieve their ideal test scores.
