SAT Exam

The SAT is one of the most widely used standardized tests in the United States. Taken by high school-level students prior to college admissions, the SAT is used to project a student’s readiness for college. The exam takes roughly three hours to complete and consists of three sections: reading, writing, and mathematics. The exam is scored between 400 and 1600 points. At HYE Tutors, we understand what this exam means for a lot of students and what is at stake. We also understand that a student’s capabilities and their SAT score are not necessarily correlated. Therefore, the key to a successful exam day is thorough preparation. Our team of experienced tutors has broken down the exam into manageable sections and works closely with students to cover both basic and complex concepts. Our past success stories are testimonials to our hands-on approach which makes us Los Angeles’ best SAT prep service.

The Reading portion of the exam consists of 52 questions and passages on history, science, and social studies subjects. We help students sharpen their reading comprehension skills by practicing exercises to quickly analyze text. The answers to the questions are solely based on the content either stated or implied in the passages, therefore the solutions lie in the fine print. Finding those answers requires a trained eye that HYE Tutors can help you acquire.

The Writing and Language portion of the SAT consists of 44 questions based on more reading passages. Test takers are required to suggest grammatical corrections or improvements to the provided text, which can vary in subject matter. The goal of the exam is to evaluate a student’s grasp of word choice, analysis, sentence structure, and punctuation. We work with students to master the basics of grammar for exam day, as well as practice exercises to improve their skills in spotting errors. Our goal at HYE Tutors is to not only make sure you know where to place a comma, but that you also can identify well-written passages.

Lastly, the mathematics portion of the exam consists of two sections: Math Test with Calculator & Math Test Without Calculator. Made up of 58 questions in total, the test presents questions on algebra, statistics, modeling, non-linear expression, radicals, exponentials, and more. Our trained math tutors identify the areas of mathematics that a student struggles with the most and help them sharpen their skills prior to exam day. Because the mathematics section covers a broad range of concepts, we also make sure to cover the basics of various branches of math.
